Fucking Shelfari

I really am not sure what shelfari is. But I assure you, I would not invite 1148 people to join it, purposefully. It's unbelievable. I have received a ridiculous amount of emails from my friends who have wondered if I meant it for real, or if it was spam.

an article from the observer explains the debacle, precisely as i experienced it

Readings

I've been back in nyc a week now. I directed two readings thus far and have another tomorrow.

Readings can be good. You get to read a play outloud. And hopefully by great actors. And they can be wildly taxing. A lot of effort.

Most of the effort centers around casting: and its hard as hell to cast the right folks to please the writer, the director, the theater, your friends.

You usually have about three hours to rehearse - so in general, you will spend more time with the logistics of casting than you will spend time with the actors. And if its a two hour play - well, you can rest assured, you won't have much time beyond giving a few corrective notes.

Last week, I directed a reading at playwrights horizons, SAFE AND SOUND, by Mike Watson.

Friday, I directed an informal reading of Ben Rosenthal's WALT CASPER'S ARRANGEMENT for EST.

Tomorrow, I direct Melanie Marnich's TALL GRASS GOTHIC for Red Bull productions. A nice cast featuring michael cerveris, michael chernus and ana reader.

Nov 1 I direct THE STORYTELLERS by tom mccormick at the Public.

Yes, some book reporting. More to follow.

Truth hurts

I met with braly friday and his main critique of my blog is that its gotten too dry. He likes it best when I am more carefree, careless, and not doing so much book reporting.

I will go back to that faithful reader.

And that truly may mean just one of you.
