I think that's how it's spelled.
Well, just when you have think you've seen everything: last night was opening night for LONESOME HOLLOW at CATF. Was very pleased with how things went. The final runthru for playwright Lee Blessing went well - and his notes for me were great. A few gentle reminders for the actors as well as a few minor, specific changes. All worked liked charms.
So the big night: the lights go down, actors take the stage, and the lights come up and about 1 minute passes, when I hear a noise. A fart? And the show keeps going when maybe 2 minutes have passed and suddenly a man leaves. Then a woman. And then someone else. Hey - I don't mind people abandoning a play that they don't like - it happens all the time. But this seems odd. Nothing's really happened... It's very strange. Then i start to hear chatter through the headsets. A LOT of chatter. This continues for about 20 minutes or more. Finally between scenes two and three there's this interminably long transition. It is supposed to be about 10 seconds. But this feels like forever. I see a flashlight go on and off a few times precisely where the man had been sitting.
I have no idea what's happening.
A woman behind me says "this is disgusting" during the nudity.
Then another person leaves after scene 3 (when one of the pedophiles starts chatting with a boy online). Whoa. But at least the chatter stops. Plus its really hot in there.
I find out afterwards that the poor old guy crapped himself, and it made someone else sick (I guess the person sitting on one side of him). Oh my. Poor man. As for the other walker-outer, it was just too much for her. No explaining why the person was disgusted by the nudity. Not touching that.
Kudos to jake for cleaning up the mess in a blackout.
All of this is secondary to what I must say was a tremendous first showing. It's opened and I leave for the jersey shore tomorrow.
