Sterile, corporate business living. I have a minifridge and a microwave. Last night's dinner, a frozen lean cuisine fettucini alfredo. Ouch. That's gotta end now.

Last night, went to Steppenwolf and watched THE CRUCIBLE of all things. It's great. James Vincent Meredith was a phenomenal John Proctor. Thought Anna D's direction was great - though I have one quibble. When the kids are going all crazy in the "courtroom" scene, the lights and sounds seemed to suggest, that yes, things were going all supernatural. I think that's the wrong point. We should see that it is the kids who have powers over the rest of the town. Somehow, it made it feel that indeed the devil was working his magic. Unless, that was her point. I don't think so.
Walked with Mark Barton to the Navy Pier and that was fun. The weather is decent.
Saw the space. It's great. The major differences: Nilaja will be at eye level with the fourth row and above. It's great. And there will be no back wall, just a bit of a void.
The biggest challenge will be the opening and the ending; getting Nilaja on and off stage. I love the effect of her walking into the fading boom stage left and am hopeful we can create something analogous here. With Barton here, I have no doubt we'll figure it out.
In other news, today is all Phillies, all Mets. And all nerves.

I had forgotten about that sound cue in the courtroom scene, but you're right. It suggested to me also that supernatural forces were at work rather than plain hysteria. I'm thought to myself that Shapiro and the sound designer's point was that these girls were the embodiment of evil in coercing the judges to sentence people to death. As probably our hysteria over Communism led to McCarthyism, and 9/11 has led the country to give a blank check of power to the Bush administration...although I may be reaching with the latter.
Regardless, I didn't like the sound cue, but thought the production to be first rate.
