Chay yew and ssdc

I participated last night in a one hour chat with aspiring directors. It was a reminder of just how uphill a battle directing can be. So many of the questions had to do with the obtacles, the hurdles that are inherent in our pursuit. So it was particularly refreshing to hear Chay talk about how he invests in the people and the project at hand. I got the feeling that he would definitely pass on the high paying lort a gig if it meant working on something he was not interested in, with folks who made him miserable. Life's too short and there's really no value in hitting your head repeatedly against the wall.

I talked about making 6 figures in my last dotcom job at earthnoise and crying in the shower my FIRST day of work, keenly aware that I no longer had any clue who I was or what I was doing. So I need to remind myself about that from time to time and realize how great things are going. They are!

Nilaja is playing to sold out shows in LA. I had a nice run with Braly at 59e59. I have a reading on monday with kara manning, princess grace winner. Its all going very very well.

And jojo got the gig at vermont! I don't know if its her first paying gig - but I am pleased that she'll be working in weston. Have a sausage for me, jojo.

Yesterday I had the pleasure to meet with the terrifically talented annie baker. Her play INSOMNIA is set in vermont and we had a chat about many things: LA, shabbat services, and the difficulty of casting. She is in the throes of casting her show at the atlantic. Anyway, she's great and am really glad we met up. I look forward to many more talks with her, both subtantive playwise, as well as fun.

She interviewed for a job working on the OED! And we had a nice discussion of the misuse of non-plussed. How do smart people use it to mean "unimpressed"? When did that happen?
