Ojai day 1

I've arrived! I love it here. What a great place - so supportive.

Friend and literary manager Catherine Kimmel picked me up at LAX and we got caught up. I've missed the pre-conference - where writers, directors and dramaturgs meet and read the six or seven plays out loud then spend an hour or two talking about the work/week ahead.

I got in town just in time to hear our play read: Bill Cain's NINE CIRCLES. Very exciting to hear it and to hear the discussion afterwards. Today, sunday, Bill and I will meet to discuss the play, and the gameplan going forward this week.

The play is based on the actual events of steven d green, an american soldier who has been charged with the raping, murder, and burning of a 14 year old iraqi girl. It also uses influenced structurally by dante's nine circles of hell.

Great to see familiar faces sarah treem, keith bunin, abigail deser, bob egan etc.

Spent the evening at a road house-y barbecue then back at the twin peaks ranch, where some of the writers are staying.
